Enterprising Entrepreneurs Redefine Value Propositions

The Historical Mega Trend toward Entrepreneurship

We all saw it coming. Were you ready for it?

The downsizing of Corporate America began in the early 1980′s. Much was written about how the psychological contract of an earlier era was broken. The psychological contract was the invisible promise of commitment between employer and employee which implied that an employee who dedicated their career and life to one company, working hard and putting in long hours, in turn the company would provide employment for a lifetime, along with pensions and the benefits.

By the early 1990′s when I (Meagan) was consulting to the Fortune 100 for top brand consulting firms, the mega trend was reengineering corporations.  The intent was to save jobs and companies by streamlining operations and processes aligned to Information Technology systems.

As an organization change and business process design expert at that time, I found in this experience most corporations were lacking in strategic direction, leadership, planning and continuity of projects. The short term quarterly focus created a schizophrenic environment where leaders abandoned programs and projects before they even had a chance of taking root and seeing a return. We entered the 2000′s with this dynamic like wind against our backs.

Skip forward to 2011, past a decade of growing uncertainty, global competitiveness, past more downsizing, and of course past the global banking crisis and mortage debacle which impacted every breathing human on the planet…and here we are at a crucial point in history.

Now what?
